Shop dine or chill out at the Select Citywalks flea market

Rest assured one of the best ways to de-stress is to go shopping, even if it is window shopping. Looking at the window displays with the mannequins wearing the latest clothes and bedecked in jewellery is a sight for sore eyes. Haggling with the shop-keeper is another high point. The fact that one was able to bring down the price puts you on cloud nine. It means that you can, from the money you saved have a cup of much deserved coffee and put up your feet. After all you need to treat yourself for a job well done.

And if the shopping spree is at a flea market the joy is doubled. Where else would you get great stuff, be it bags, slippers, home furnishings etc for a bargain. It was with this intention that the flea market @ Select Citywalk came up. Every Wednesday from 4 pm till 10 pm, next to the fountains in the central plaza, is a shoppers’ paradise. The bazaar, which is more like a ‘haat’ has everything. Jewellery, home linen, children’s toys, antiques, books, beauty and wellness enhancers, apparel, shoes/slippers, lamps, photo frames, more clothes, bakery counter, food counters and balloons for the kids.

If this does not impress you, there is also a stall where you can adopt puppies! If it is not adoption you want you can donate money for their upkeep. There is some thing very endearing about these puppies when they look at you with their droopy, soulful eyes. With the small kiosk like shops filled with people each wanting to buy and bargain at the same time, one hardly notices the many jolts that you get as you move form one fascinating shop to another. A bed-spread in wine red and gold catches your attention. “It is for Rs 2,200,” the person tells you as he catches you staring at it. Feeling like a child, who has been reprimanded you move forward only to find another shop where every thing is for Rs 99 – be it a kurta or a top.

And then there are embroidered kurtas for Rs 700, chicken work salwar suits with silver embroidery between Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 (depending on the workmanship), aroma beauty products and bags/purses/totes in colours and funky designs. And if you get tired or the heat gets to you the mall is only a few steps away. Step inside the cool mall, refresh yourself and you are back to tackling the other shops. Feeling hungry? No problem. Head for the food counter in the flea market. It is time to head home and as you move away your heart is heavy. It feels like you are leaving behind a friend. But, never mind there is another Wednesday, another blissful day waiting for you.
